About 2-3 weeks ago I came back to this mcdonalds to work (for I had left this mcdonalds to go back to the city for my winter break because I go to school in Dekalb and I have also been working here since late October) when I came back for my first 2 shifts when I realized that 3-4 of my coworkers were continuously coughing throughout the building during my entire shifts on both days. In addition to multiple people in my job coughing, one of the women that were coughing so happened to work in the grill area with me where she had only 1 glove on, while touching the food (and condiments that go on the burgers) with the hand that was gloveless. At the end of my shift, I wrote down on a note that I felt uncomfortabe working there with multiple people coughing throughout the shift, especially with it already being Flu season, reports of a new covid variant (the Omicron) just being released only a month ago, And I was just recovering from being sick just the week before when I was sick when I was on my winter break, and also letting it be known that I didn’t want to risk bringing any viruses or sickness to my dorm, for I live on campus, all while letting them know that I still liked working in the Mcdonalds. The manager then called me the next morning to let me know that I was showing discrimination for doing such and that I didn’t know what everybody might have, although I was just putting my health and safety first for both myself and my roommate, and that I was not needed to work in their facility anymore. They did this without telling me the actual medical reason why 3-4 people would continuously be coughing throughout the shift. Mind you this entire facility works with a huge majority of HispanicsMexicans (I don’t want to get the preference wrong), with all the managers being of that race ethnicity, while there is a small percentage of black people working here (including me being in that small group of black people). I didn’t want to do this, but I feel like they had some sort of hatred towards me because I wasn’t a bad worker, and I definitely did my job good.
